A Personal Confession
I have to confess that Cristina (my wife) and I used to be sporadic givers until about 4 years ago. We'd give and feel pretty good about ourselves but at the end of the year, when we added it all up, it never quite ended up being a tithe (10%)...Read the Rest

Strategy for Changing the World
Lately, I've been blown away by a statistic that a friend shared with me. I can't seem to get it out of my mind. It's staggering and here it is:

If every believer in America gave 10% of his or her income to the Kingdom of God this would amount to $156,000,000,000 (that's billion). If we took 60% of that amount ($94 Billion) and we dedicated it to overseas missions it would be enough money to feed, medicate, and share the love and peace of Jesus with the entire underdeveloped world.

Stop! Read it Again!

That's a lot of money and that's only in one year.

Whatever you think about tithing or giving to the Kingdom, think about this statistic from a purely strategic point of view for the people of God in America. We could change the world. We could ultimately bring peace to this planet if we wanted to. If we wanted to!

What if we (the church) adopted God's idea of community, connectedness and economy? What if, just as a strategy for changing our own hearts, changing the world and impacting missions you and I gave 10% of our income to the Kingdom? Imagine the power of that testimony!

I love to study the early church. What I've found interesting is that one of the first things that God's Spirit changed about the early church was their attitude toward money and possessions. They understood that everything they had was a gift from God:

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. - The Book of Acts

Homeless in the Bajo
As some of you are aware, the governtment in San Ramon has started a "renovation" project in Bajo Tejares. What they didnt plan for was the pain this would cause the already impoverished residents.

Without consideration they bulldozed rows of houses leaving the people to fend for themselves, scurrying to find anything that could be used for a "house."
Over the last few weeks, teams from Pura Vida Missions in conjunction with FSM have worked to bring relief and love to the people in the Bajo. Teams helped build a bathhouse facility for those who have no home or running water.

Pura Vida has also continued to minister to the children in the Bajo in an effort to show love and bring a much needed smile by providing a fun and exciting Vacation Bible School.

Surfing & Serving in Costa Rica

The first Pura Vida Mission' "surf and serve" was a complete success. We were joined by a team of 18 people from Christ Fellowship of Palm Beach County.

After getting up to surf at 5am every morning the team worked hard everyday to completely refurbish a school in Venado, Costa Rica: the school got a brand new paint job - inside and out, 2 new ceiling fans, a new roof, plumbing repairs and a completely cleaned school yard. The children and the town of Venado were completely blessed by this effort.

In addition to surfing and construction, the team did vacation Bible school in 2 different locations with over 100 children, many of whom gave their lives to Jesus Christ. All the children received New Testaments in Spanish and a connection with a local church.

Check out the video on the Pura Vida myspace and the photos on the photo page.

If you would like to book your team for a surf and serve in 2009 contact us and we will set it up.

Orphanage Gets Mural
During our Dream Team visit from St. Marks this April and the artistic talent of Linda Prinz, an amazing mural of Jesus with a child was painted on the main house exterior wall that faces the street. We made the local news station when drivers passing by could see the new image unfolding during the week. Upon completion, the sweet presence of Jesus can be seen by many travelers making their way into San Ramon. Praise God!
